Store pickers spun for minutes because the timeout hadn't started yet

Every request had a timeout, and store pickers still spun until a restart, the same week a nightly job sat stuck on prod for days with every check green. The clocks started too late or not at all, so I put one on the line, the slot, every job and on progress itself.
